When I was in Bath last year, I picked up a couple of games for my son, one of them was 3 Men's Morris, it's apparently a very old game that was very popular in Roman time and in the Middle Ages.
It's coming up to Christmas far too quickly so I'm turning up a couple of walnut bowls to add to a couple of other things for some small presents for various people. This is a quick turning out of some 200 x 50 Walnut I have sitting around.
I've had this small bowl blank of Silver Silkwood sitting around for a couple of years now so I thought I'd try to turn up something a little different. I've been playing with the idea of turning a small bowl to keep rings and jewellery in.
We have a twilight market coming up at a nearby school, I haven't really done a market properly but I want to start, so I batched up a bunch of smaller bowls so I had some more affordable bowls for sale. These are made out of Mahogany and Silky Oak centres taken from the rims of my yarn bowls.
I've been working on this yarn bowl for the last few weeks in between jobs, kids parties, other projects amongst other things. I haven't managed to spend much time in the shed at all recently. This one is made from all Australian Timbers, Jarrah from W.A. and a local Victorian Ash.

White Oak and Walnut Yarn bowl
Last bowl for 2016, a Black Walnut and White Oak yarn bowl. It was a bit hot and humid over the days that I shot this so it took about 3 or 4 sessions, usually before the heat got up too much in the day.
Making a Walnut Hand Reel for Fishing
I'd been asked to turn up some old school hand line fishing reels for a mate in Queensland for fishing the reef. These are being turned out of black walnut, a little bit classy for reef fishing but, hey, nothing like nice fishing kit.
Wooden necklace pendants
I've been turning up a few wooden pendants recently as a way of using some of the small offcuts that gather in the workshop when making the yarn bowls and other stuff. I'm hoping to gather some stock together to run a stall at an upcoming market to sit alongside the yarn bowls.
Camphor Laurel bowl for Mother's Day
I've turned up this camphor laurel bowl as a Mothers Day gift for my wife. She requested a new bowl to replace the broken bowl we've been using to keep the car keys and stuff in.
Vintage style pepper grinder
I finally got around to replacing the squeaking plastic pepper grinder we've had for years. The timber is Chinese Elm, which is one of my favourite decorative park trees.
